Canon EOS R6

Hands on: It's early days, of course, but the EOS R6 makes a much more consistently positive first impression than the EOS R did. And, while 20 megapixels isn't going likely to be overly demanding on Canon's high-end RF lenses, this feels like a camera that finally gives enthusiast photographers a way to enjoy them. It means that this whole RF business suddenly makes a lot more sense.

Hands on: Canon’s new EOS R6 might be the spiritual mirrorless successor to the EOS 6D Mark II but it’s so much more than just an incremental update – it’s opened up a whole new playing field for hobbyists and enthusiasts. From in-body image stabilization to a blazing burst speed, autofocus performance that rivals the EOS 1 DX Mark III and HEIF file format support, the R6 is shaping up to be one of the best cameras to arrive in 2020.

The Canon EOS R6 is an upper mid-range full-frame mirrorless camera with 20 Megapixels, 4k 60p video, built-in stabilization, bursts up to 20fps and a fully-articulated touchscreen. Ultimately the R5 may grab the headlines, but the R6 delivers most of what everyone wants at a much more affordable price.

Hands on: Overall, the Canon EOS R6 looks to be a well-designed addition to the Canon EOS R mirrorless camera lineup, and we are certainly looking forward to going hands-on with the camera.

Hands on: The Canon EOS R6 is a versatile all-round camera that can shoot pretty much anything. While the R5’s specs are too much for most people, there’s a question of whether or not the R6’s resolution is too little. However, it makes all the sense in the world if you’re taking advantage of the blistering 20fps burst shooting – and it’s a moot point, when you’re filming crispy 4K 60p video. The fact remains, however, that the entry level EOS RP and even APS-C cameras like the 90D offer greater resolution.

Hands on: Nevertheless, the R6 seems like an excellent camera for videographers. It may not be able to shoot 8K video, nor (more disappointingly) 4K at 120fps like the R6, but it can capture 4K video at 60P (with just a slight crop ) with 10bit colour and with Canon Log on hand for greater grading potential. What’s more, it can record that to a UHS-II SD-type memory card. Add in the exciting autofocus system and the Canon R6 has plenty of appeal.
