Raspberry Pi 4 Model B gets a bit toasty and could do with improved cooling if you plan to push it hard, but that's the only minor complaint about what's otherwise a brilliant computer. A faster processor, dual 4K HDMI outputs, USB 3.0 ports, a faster Gigabit Ethernet port and a speedier microSD card slot make this the best Pi yet.
Our editors hand-pick related products using a variety of criteria: direct competitors targeting the same market segment, or devices that are similar in size, performance, or feature sets.
The greatest challenge with the Pi 4 right now is finding one. The 4 GB Desktop Kit has been sold out at stores like PiShop since it went on sale earlier this year. Currently CanaKit appears to be about the only store with the Desktop Kit ($119) in stock, though Micro Center has it for in-store pickup. If you don't need the extra RAM or the Desktop Kit, consider the 2 GB board and USB-C power charger for $65 at Amazon. It's my favorite bundle.
If you’re looking to use the Pi with specific software like LibreELEC or RetroPie, I’d wait until that software is ready for prime time before you buy one. But desktop usage on the Pi 4 is such a clear step up from its predecessors that I’m quite impressed.

Is the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B viable as a desktop PC? Well, perhaps. As you move around the Raspbian desktop everything feels slick and responsive and the enhanced video hardware lets you enjoy HD movies on one monitor while you're working on a second....
And although the Raspberry Pi 4 is the new flagship computer in the range, other, even cheaper, Pi models are still in production, including the tiny, sub-£10 Raspberry Pi Zero W. All that's happened here is that there are now also models with more memory, suitable for using as a capable and low-cost mini-desktop or laptop computer build, and for power-hungry projects such as low-interference audio recording stations, media centres and DIY games consoles.
The Raspberry Pi 4 is already a powerful device, easily beating its predecessors and its similarly-priced competition in a range of benchmarks. For those who need still more, though, overclocking is a quick and easy way to wring a little extra...
