Overview

The ROG Zephyrus G14 offers reasonable value and there's a lot to like about this machine. While it is possible to find cheaper laptops with full-power RTX 2060 GPUs, those thicker, heavier machines don’t have the awesome AMD CPU. We’d only consider looking elsewhere if you’re specifically searching for more GPU power, a larger screen, or a higher refresh rate. The G14 is a compelling option for gaming and productivity.

AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS Review: The Ryzen 9 4900HS is a great choice for core-heavy work: we're talking video encoding or transcoding, 3D rendering, file compression, that sort of thing. It’s much faster and does so at a lower power draw, allowing for better performance in a smaller form factor. Even in single-thread workloads, AMD generally comes out on top, which means that the Premiere editing experience is better on the Ryzen 9 4900HS, for example.

The ASUS Zephyrus G14, while it doesn't top every chart, it does so well across the board that it is a top contender. Add to this the potential for all day working untethered, and it comes out as a performance champion.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 may not be the most powerful gaming laptop you can buy, but we reckon it's the best. Asus has perfectly balanced every feature, so there's no major weak point in sight. Even the design shows no sign of compromise, with a weight more akin to an ultrabook than your typical high-performance gaming portable. The incredibly good value price point is the final factor in confirming the Zephyrus G14 as the new golden standard for gaming laptops, with rivals such as Razer and Alienware needing significant strides to catch up.

The Ryzen-powered G14 weighs just a bit more than the Stealth GTX and it games better. I see no reason to buy the Stealth GTX or any pricier gaming ultraportable when this laptop exists. AMD has rewritten the rules of what a gaming laptop can be.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 is an impressive little gaming laptop. Just be sure that "little" is what you really want and you don't mind switching to the less-impressive Silent mode for decent away-from-the-plug battery life.

With the kind of horsepower in this laptop, there’s really nothing it can’t do well. If a powerful 14” class notebooks with real gaming chops is something you’ve been craving, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is worth checking out.
