Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX 32"

Overview

The Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX is one of those monitors that’s pretty hard to come to a conclusion on, because results are mixed. It’s really hard to complain about how this panel looks when displaying either SDR or HDR images, it’s top notch. But all of this has been let down by poor motion clarity and response time performance. This panel is simply a generation behind the latest IPS displays in overall speed, leading to some motion artifacts that today’s fastest panels don’t have. I also feel the lack of HDMI 2.1 is a massive flaw.

HDR has such a transformative effect on games, though there are only a handful of monitors on the market that can take full advantage of it. The PG32UQX is undoubtedly the future of gaming monitors, but it comes at a price that most of us simply cannot afford. If you can afford it, this is by far the best gaming monitor you can get your hands on today.

The Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX is the future of gaming monitors. Its $3,000 price tag is hard to swallow, and I certainly wouldn’t call it good value. Still, it feels justified. Most monitors, even those priced above $1,000, make slight tweaks to the same basic technology PC gamers have used for over a decade. Not the PG32UQX – this is the cutting edge.

With a few omissions and a high price tag, we can’t quite call the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX perfect. But its picture quality is without equal among computer monitors. A Mini LED backlight with a quantum dot film provides amazing contrast and a huge color gamut for the latest gaming and video formats. It has the best image of any computer display we have ever reviewed.

As a showcase for what a gaming monitor can do, the PG32UQX excels. It is hugely expensive though, while the lack of HDMI 2.1 is a shame.

The PG32UQX has been so eagerly anticipated it was very interesting for us to test and review. There is no doubt that a 32" screen with a 4K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate is a really excellent choice for gaming and is bound to be popular. 4K provides a great improvement in image clarity and picture quality and is a lot more usable on a screen this size than it was on earlier 27" generations.
