Even with its limitations and few odd quirks, the LG 27GL850 is an excellent and impressive monitor. It offers the hands-down best IPS screen I’ve seen to date and a level of responsiveness that makes it a good fit for casual and competitive games alike. LG has a definite winner on its hands.

The LG 27GL850 is a great 1440p monitor. It has outstanding motion handling, with one of the fastest response times we've ever measured. This results in exceptionally clear motion in any scene, with almost no blur behind fast-moving objects. It also has outstanding low input lag for a responsive gaming experience. This monitor supports AMD's FreeSync variable refresh rate (VRR) technology, but it's also NVIDIA certified as G-SYNC compatible, so VRR works automatically with a recent NVIDIA graphics card. Unfortunately, like almost all IPS monitors, it doesn't look as good in a dark room, as it has a disappointing contrast ratio and bad black uniformity.

The LG 27GL850 is a fantastic gaming monitor with excellent imaging quality and responsiveness that places it right next to the best sellers we mentioned above. The monitor won’t need calibration, but its contrast is lower than expected for a Nano IPS variant. We also love LG for putting in the effort to get this monitor G-Sync compatibility-certified, so Nvidia users aren’t left out in the dust.

The LG 27GL850 is an exceptional gaming monitor. It delivers vibrant, accurate, and consistent colors as well as a rapid response time speed, low input lag, and plenty of additional useful features. What’s more, it’s got a great design, rich connectivity options, and a reasonable price tag.

LG makes beautiful screens, and the 27GL850 is no exception to that rule. Its excellent colors paired with fast, fluid action makes the 27GL850 an excellent gaming monitor that does not disappoint--as long as you're not looking for HDR. And while this experience is truly great, it was only one of the best when it first released. It's still a superb gaming display, but since its release, several monitors have stepped in and provided comparable experiences for cheaper. If you can find the 27GL850 on sale, though, it's absolutely worth picking up.

Its closest competitors, earlier IPS monitors like the Acer XB271HU, are actually more expensive due to their inclusion of hardware G-Sync modules that simply aren't necessary for most users. Our previous best gaming monitor pick, the MSI Optix MAG271CQR, is normally a little cheaper but lacks the near-perfect colour reproduction and rapid response time of the 27GL850. Therefore, picking this new LG monitor as our top recommendation was an easy choice to make - and if you are in the market for a new display, this one should be the first you check out.

The LG 27GL850-B Gaming Monitor combines all the strengths of a gaming screen with (nearly) all the strengths of a media monitor. It doesn’t have the color space to be suitable for a video developer, but it does come quite close. Along with its stunningly competitive pricing, that makes this screen a no-brainer for people who stream media just as much as they game.

The LG 27GL850 Gaming Monitor is basically like an entertainment and movie monitor that also happens to have tons of gaming features. It has virtually every kind of feature you can shove into a monitor right now, short of the sort of things which are almost exclusively useful to video developers and professional photographers.
