Overview

Challenging puzzles framed with one of the most recognizable serial killers in film history mixed with cute graphics would be a weird mix, but it works. Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle is a great experience that makes you want to give it one more go to get that sweet kill instead of turning you away in frustration when you miss that final character.

Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle could be viewed as a reskin of Slayaway Camp, which would be a problem if Slayaway Camp wasn’t such a great puzzle game, but honestly more of the same is welcome. The all-new puzzles and the path to their solutions are always satisfying to figure out. I’ll admit that the sadism of a few kill-animations is a bit harsh for my personal tastes, but there’s a toggle to drop the rating down to PG-13 I purposefully ignored, so that’s on me.

Killer Puzzle's developer Blue Wizard was founded by PopCap alumnus Jason Kapalka, who has worked on Peggle and Bejeweled, someone who knows ways in which fun games can be misused and who had a hand in the very games responsible for the near-death of my academic career. Fast forward a few years and Kapalka and his team still know how to drive me to distraction. At least this is my job now.

Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle is a mobile title for horror fans who preferred the campy tone of the slasher series. The game is colorful and humors but also filled to the brim with a lot of bloody violence.
