I by no means regret the 60+ hours I put into Andromeda as it does have an addictive quality that draws you in, but it’s marred by frequent technical issues. Every time I begin to have fun, I’m quickly reminded of just how unpolished things are. When it works, Mass Effect: Andromeda is a stimulating adventure. When it doesn’t, it’s nothing short of dispiriting.

Graphics Performance Tested: Overall, Mass Effect: Andromeda ran perfectly during our benchmarking procedures (no crashing etc.). The game's visual quality is extremely impressive and the gameplay seems like a lot of fun. It's a shame that the experience appears to be spoiled by poor animation.
Mass Effect fans will welcome more Mass Effect in their lives. It's a great achievement but there's no great advancement on Mass Effect 3 and new players would be better off starting with that as it's more...
All the elements that make Mass Effect a great series are present in Andromeda, but they're buried under a pile of issues, both technical and otherwise. The locations look amazing, the combat is better than ever, and the story is engaging enough to keep...
Mass Effect: Andromeda is eminently playable. I haven’t spent much time on some of the more positive aspects, because I don’t think they matter too much in the long run. Environments are beautiful, if generic. Combat is actually pretty great once you’ve deciphered the crafting and the overwrought leveling system. Andromeda goes down easy, and it’s a game you can mindlessly sink 50 to 100 hours into and be mildly entertained, same as (for instance) the latter-era Assassin’s Creeds. Occasionally it even scratches at something deeper.
Note: This review was first published in GameAxis on 20th March. After years on ice, the Mass Effect series is finally back in the spotlight once more. After Mass Effect 3's less than satisfactory endings, Andromeda wisely sidesteps the issue about what...
If you can come to terms with Mass Effect: Andromeda's rough edges and embrace its focus on exploring interesting planets and sub-plots above a single epic storyline, there is a substantial and captivating interstellar adventure to be found...
It has been five years since the climatic and controversial conclusion to the original MASS Effect trilogy, a series that shaped sci-fi RPGs in that generation. It is a series that means a hell of a lot to a whole bunch of gamers so when news came about...
A New Frontier If you have played the first Mass Effect trilogy, you know that figuring out how to do a true sequel would have been nigh on impossible. With the possibility of life as we know it being either completely eradicated, roughed up, or just...
A veteran Mass Effect player and a complete novice walk into a bar. This isn't the beginning of a terrible joke: Instead, it's the premise of a conversation between Engadget associate editor Timothy J. Seppala and senior reporter Jessica Conditt, both...
A lot can happen in ten years. A decade in pop culture can feel like a person's entire lifetime. Since the first Mass Effect, an entire console generation and then some has passed. The diversity of voices in the industry has exploded, and many of the...
Despite its rougher edges, Mass Effect: Andromeda is a fine third-person shooter that features terrific space exploration. If you can overlook the clunky menus and graphics issues, you're in for some fun space hijinks.
