But while Milestone's lack of budget is normally balanced by the force of its passion, MXGP feels a little too flat for a sport that's all about high-flying attitude. The physics engine, as always, is the main attraction - it's just a shame that Milestone didn't apply a little more drive and ambition.
It looks drab but MXGP pushes you as hard as any racing game can, thanks to the way it forces you to constantly adapt rather than learn through repetition. Intense but good fun.
As someone who knew nothing about Motocross other than the fact it was people on bikes going around a dirt track, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from MXGP. Milestone have delivered a fun and different racer that uses rider momentum in an interesting way. However your enjoyment and, probably, the longevity of the game will depend on your interest in the sport or the racing game genre.
There are more imperfections in the release than the track at Matterley Basin, but biking aficionados will find some fun here in spite of the title’s many flaws.
There is much enjoyment to be had out of the Career mode, or from simply learning how to play, full-stop – shifting your rider about to negotiate the extremely tortuous bends is a real challenge, particularly when you start using the much pacier MX1 bikes with their increased acceleration.

Letztlich enttäuscht uns MXGP etwas, haben wir uns doch auf heiße Schlachten im Dreck gefreut, fahren wir der Konkurrenz nach etwas Übung und mit etwas Streckenkenntnis locker davon, stellen wir uns nicht selbst durch zahlreiche Stürze ein Bein....
