Developer Respawn Entertainment clearly took a measured and thoughtful approach to analyze what worked and what didn’t in its last Star Wars game, and Jedi: Survivor feels like a worthy attempt at evolution. It captures the magic of Star Wars as well as anything in the current canon, and it’s a stellar adventure in its own right. Still, nailing the fantasy of being a Jedi? Doesn’t hurt.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is bigger than Fallen Order in every way, offering excellent combat and traversal, as well as a fantastic story.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a great continuation of Cal Kestis’ journey. The story is a little predictable and platforming could be sharper, but this is a sequel that builds on the ideas of the original and there’s real enjoyment to be had in exploring the expansive new worlds, digging into the lore and running into secret boss fights.

Unfortunately, some decisions forsake organic experimentation in favor of trial and error, and some elements don’t feel nearly as polished as they ought to be. Its presentation is beautiful outside some last-gen-looking NPC interactions, but it’s burdened by a terrible technical performance that makes the ‘performance’ mode nonviable. Ultimately, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a very good game with a great story, excellent design and fun gameplay, but hampered by a lack of polish and poor performance. It may not have achieved the rank of master, but Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a true Jedi of the light side.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes what Fallen Order achieved and wall-runs with it, then double-jumps and air-dashes straight into an epic lightsaber battle. Rather than taking us back to square one to begin Cal’s journey as a Padawan again, we’re trusted with control of a full-fledged Jedi Knight who we can grow into a master of superhuman mobility and fantastic and challenging combat.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor builds on the already-winning formula of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order by making Cal Kestis a more powerful and resourceful Jedi Knight, while also upping the stakes and the challenges he's facing. Exhilarating lightsaber combat...
