The TCL 10L has a great screen, especially at this price. But if you value other features like battery life, cameras and performance, you should turn to the similarly priced Moto G Power or Moto G Stylus.

The TCL 10L is a solid phone to buy. I'd choose it over the Moto G Power (unless you really want 3-day battery life), but if you can spend the extra $50, you may be happier with the Moto G Stylus, which can at least take some usable low-light shots. As much as I take photos, I'd prefer to have smooth performance across all of the things I use a phone for, so the TCL would be my pick.

The 10L is a good attempt at a budget phone, and while it doesn't have many flashy features, it admirably handles basic tasks and has an elegant design. For the price, it's a good rival to the Moto G Stylus ($300 at Amazon). But because Motorola's phone performed much more smoothly, I recommend it between the two.

The TCL 10L offers great bang-for-your-buck with a huge, adjustable display and clean TCL UI software. Its cameras are passable at best, but its hardware is solid and the inclusion of NFC for mobile payments is rare in the phone's price range.

That makes the TCL 10L, and what TCL is doing in general, important, because while it’s relatively easy to make an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink flagship, building something to an aggressive price is much, much harder. Even if the TCL 10L isn’t for you, that makes it still a phone worth admiring.

If you can look past the all-plastic build, the dim screen in direct sunlight, and the lackluster ultrawide camera, the TCL 10L is a solid buy. We’d love to have stereo speakers for a more immersive video watching experience, though.

In general, the 10 Pro and 10L are solid devices that should do well. I wish they stood out from the crowd a bit more, which might have helped TCL earn more recognition.

I’m a real fan of the TCL 10L. It’s one of the best values in the US. I did a lot of searching and I honestly couldn’t find a phone with a value as good. It’s seriously one of the best. It’s one of the only phones I’d recommend to people on an extreme budget. From the good specs to a good display to a good camera, it compromises where it needs to and has great specs in the places it does. It’s all-around great.
