The Intel 670p is a good overall drive, posting competitive performance other than relatively slow off-cache performance. Our only question is why the company rates the drive for far fewer terabytes written (TBW) than the competition.

Looking back through the numbers, Intel seems to have a solid offering with the SSD 670p. Sequential transfers aren’t as impressive as some higher-end drivers, but access times, random transfers at low queue depths, and the trace-based tests look good, especially considering the drives’ MSRPs, improved endurance, and 5-year warranty. If you’re shopping for a relatively affordable, NVMe SSD, and don’t mind the middling sequential throughput, the Intel SSD 670p would be good choice.

The Intel SSD 670p performs well for a QLC, PCIe Gen3 drive. It was able to hit its quoted write speeds and was able to outperform some of the Gen4 drives at times, with pretty composed behavior. It is priced about the same as the Gen4 Corsair QLC drive, or TLC Gen3 drives, putting the 670p at a big price premium at launch, relative to top-end performance.

Once the Intel 670p comes down to sane price ranges, it certainly has the potential to be a good product. It helps raise the bar for QLC SSDs and entry-level NVMe SSDs in general. The 670p probably can't quite come down in price far enough to match the 660p, but if it got close then it could be a very compelling bargain.
