The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is unquestionably the best Android tablet for most people with solid specs, an excellent display and the included S Pen, but that’s only if an Android tablet is the right choice for you.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is a speedy, long-lasting Android 12 slate that's beautiful to look at and comfortable to hold. It can't compete with the best iPads, but it's still a new standard for premium Android tablets.
The Tab S8 and its brethren pack all the specs and features you’d expect and more at prices that compete with Apple’s tablet offerings. Even if you aren’t married to the Android platform, we think the Tab S8 is worth recommending.
I think the biggest hurdle with the Tab S8 and S8 Plus as they are is their pricing. These are premium tablets with big price tags — especially once you start to add accessories to them. Samsung will likely release some more attractively priced tablets to replace some of its older models, and it has been good about delivering software updates to bring some of these new features to existing devices, though the a company spokesperson declined to comment on future updates when I asked. For now, though, if you want a good Android tablet experience and you aren’t interested in living the dual-platform life, the Tab S8 or S8 Plus is about as good as it gets.
Hands on: The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus are remarkably limited upgrades compared to 2020’s Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus. If you’re after an Android tablet, this will likely be a top choice for 2022 – we’ll know at the time of full review - but it isn’t worth upgrading from Samsung’s last release.
