Fitbit Luxe

Fitbit’s fashion-conscious wearable looks the part but its heart-rate tracking accuracy is questionable.

The Fitbit Luxe doesn't break new ground as far as what it's capable of tracking. The big software changes lie in the app, where the data the onboard sensors track can help users think more about stress and not just keeping active and physically healthy. It's really all about the screen and design, and Fitbit finally giving us the kind of stylish fitness band we've been calling out for for some time. If you want an attractive fitness tracker and you care about things like steps, sleep monitoring and tracking heart rate 24/7, then the Luxe should fit the bill.

But its size is also one of its drawbacks — its tiny screen makes things hard to read. Still, for $150, the Luxe is a well-made and capable fitness tracker that can track pretty much everything. If you’re looking for a simple activity band that’s smaller than most, this will serve you well. At least, as long as you have near-perfect vision.

The sleek, style-forward Fitbit Luxe offers all the basics you want from a fitness tracker in a design that looks more like jewelry than gym wear.

After almost two weeks with the Fitbit Luxe, I really enjoy wearing it. But I'm not entirely sure who it's for. Unless you're specifically looking for a pretty fitness band with a color AMOLED screen (and are prepared to spend $200 to get that jewelry-like look), the cheaper Inspire 2 or Charge 4 offer most of the same features as the Luxe for less.

Small, sleek and polished both inside and out, the Luxe is one of the best Fitbits to date. Without on-board GPS, its run tracking isn't perfect, but its biometrics (particularly heart rate monitoring) are impressive, making it a great choice for gym-goers. It's great for everyday motivation as well, keeping you on track with healthier habits. Fitness trackers work best when worn every day, and this is one that you'll genuinely want to.

The colour-screened Fitbit Luxe offers superior build quality to the entry-level Inspire 2 but otherwise has a similar feature set and weaker battery life.

The Luxe is a fitness tracker Fitbit should have launched some time ago. The company has essentially taken the slim, attractive profile of the Alta tracker many thought it had ditched, adding a colour touchscreen display that makes it a much nicer tracker to use. There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking here on the features front, but it ultimately rounds out Fitbit’s core fitness and wellness features with good but not class-leading battery life in a design that offers plenty of appeal.
