The Fossil Gen 5 hits (almost) all of the right notes. It has a simplistic yet stylish design, feels great on the wrist, and surprisingly good performance with a healthy set of features. Battery life is adequate at best and the price is a bit steep, but all-in-all, this is an excellent package.

The Fossil Gen 5 is one of the best Wear OS smartwatches out there at the moment. That doesn't mean it's flawless, but it offers a decent battery life and plenty of features that should keep Wear OS fans happy.
With its fifth generation of smartwatches, Fossil finally hits its stride with a near-perfect blend of personal assistant features and fitness tacking capabilities, setting a new standard for which Wear OS devices should be measured against.
Small tweaks to the Wear OS user experience, paired with improved specs, markedly better performance and enhanced power management collectively render the Fossil Gen 5 an excellent all-rounder. Despite becoming more expensive than its predecessors in the process, the improvements made to the Fossil Gen 5 mean it's the first of the company’s smartwatches that we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, namely because it finally addresses one of the biggest shortcomings that’s plagued Wear OS offerings up until this point.
The Fossil Gen 5 watches can last through a day, look good, and run much better than previous generations. I would have no major qualms about making the Fossil Carlyle my daily watch. However, I do have qualms suggesting that anybody purchase one — not at $295.

The Fossil Gen 5 Smartwatch is the best Wear OS watch you can buy. It delivers in nearly every area — performance, aesthetics, and customizability. I just wish the watch lasted longer on a charge without turning sensors on and off, though that seems like more of a Wear OS problem than a Fossil problem. If you're on board with Wear OS, you'll love the Fossil Gen 5. The hardware is great. Now let's hope Google puts some more effort into Wear OS.
If you really want a Wear OS watch. The Fossil Q Gen 5 is the best Wear OS smartwatch currently available, unless LTE connectivity is a requirement for you. It doesn't suffer from lag and major bugs, like many other watches, though there's still the occasional "Sorry, I didn't understand that" from Google Assistant. The battery life is enough for at least one heavy day of use, and if you're going to be away from a charger for a few days, the Extended or Time-Only battery modes can push the watch a bit farther.
