D-Link Covr-2202

This is an effective whole-home wi-fi system which does a great job at relieving internet black spots. It looks stylish too but doesn't come cheap and is a little lacking when it comes to robust parental controls.

The D-Link Covr-2202 is a two-piece mesh system that performs well, but lacks some key features of its competition.

D-Link COVR-2202 is indeed a powerful mesh solution to my home that offers strong, solid connection throughout concretes and walls. I have my Philips Hue smart bulbs, gaming PC, Samsung 75″ TV, and two Ring security devices (Doorbell Pro & Spotlight Cam Battery) hooked up wirelessly to it.

An easy to use mesh Wi-Fi system that provided stable performance throughout my large semi-detached house. It is priced competitively and offers the same level of performance as other well reviewed competing products.

With the app, users can change their router’s Wi-Fi settings, create a guest network, and parental controls. Using a web browser opens up port forwarding, dynamic DNS, website filtering, and QoS features. The Covr-2202’s suite of features might be enough for casual users, but readers with more advanced networking needs might want to stick to their traditional routers.

Based on my experience, the COVR-2202 seems to be more reliable mesh router than the COVR-C1203. The app UI is not the most intuitive compared to Google Wifi, nor does it have advanced features like Anti-Virus or monthly reports on TP-Link Deco. But if you just want a whole home Wi-Fi router system that works and not interested in the user-friendly aspects of other mesh solutions, then the D-Link COVR-2202 is a great option over standalone routers. Retail price is S$339, but the upcoming IT Show will be selling at S$299.

The D-link Covr-2202 is an AC2200 tri-band mesh router two-pack that takes the original Covr-1203 dual-band fashion statement and ads more power to support more devices and cover a larger area.

Reasonably priced for a tri-band mesh router, the D-Link is easy to set up and has a clean user interface.

All in all, we highly recommend the D-Link COVR-2202 especially if you need a device that can expand the coverage area of your Wi-Fi connection.

As with all great things in the tech world, performance comes at a price. Whether the price is worth paying depends entirely on the level of importance you place on wireless coverage at your location. For the student doing the occasional web browsing from their iPad, this is probably an overkill. Something more affordable like the D-Link DAP-1860 AC2600 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Range Extender would be more appropriate. However, if you are an avid gamer or heavy video streamer (Netflix 4K anyone) the COVR-2022 should be in your networking arsenal if you don’t have LAN ports everywhere.
