Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

Short battery life is my biggest issue with the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, which are otherwise capable, useful smartwatches. Though some of the newer features like body composition measurement and snore detection might not seem immediately useful, they could provide helpful insight over time. The new Wear OS powered by Samsung isn’t a huge departure from Tizen, which means we’re still getting a powerful, intuitive interface with comprehensive health-tracking features.

All of these elements add up to a solid smartwatch experience. The Galaxy Watch 4 is the best smartwatch for Samsung users, and there’s a strong case to be made for it being the best Android-compatible smartwatch, period.

Hands on: You get all the appealing components of classic Tizen Samsung Watches, including great-quality hardware, intuitive software and an optional rotary controller, with a potentially brighter future for third-party apps.

Whether you're looking for an all-singing, all-dancing smartwatch or just a smart-looking fitness tracker, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series seemingly does it all. These watches are slimmer and more powerful than their predecessors - and more affordable too. It's quite the showcase for how far Wear OS has come in a short period of time.

Hands on: The Galaxy Watch 4 looks like the ultimate fusion of a Samsung watch with Google watches -- and that could be a winning formula for using Google Maps and Assistant, connected phone features and third-party fitness apps on Google Play, which is the Galaxy Watch 4's default app store. It should be the hardware-boosted Google watch that we've been waiting years for. The software interface seems exactly like what you'd expect: part Samsung, part Google. But is it worth waiting to see how it works out, or should you just go for this first model? Hard to tell, since it's the first of its kind.

The company is canning its familiar Tizen operating system in favor of the new Wear OS it co-developed with Google. We’re still learning a lot about the software, but one thing’s for certain: Samsung clearly put its all into the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 line.

Hands on: Of the two new models, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is the only one to feature the physical rotating bezel. It’s a design element that users love. Samsung has perfectly nailed the design with the smartwatch’s fit and finish feeling excellent.
